Quarantine

Early in March 2020, it became clear that a Pandemic (Covid19) was spreading throughout the world. We were blessed that we felt impressed with the seriousness of the situation early on and we were able to get well prepared before stores began to empty of essentials.  We even used some of our stored wheat after our white flour ran out. After a few weeks, we were able to buy a big bag of flour at Costco again, but  it was nice to know that we would have been okay without it.

We have enjoyed having more family time and down time, doing puzzles and playing games. The first couple weeks of  quarantine were pretty stressful with the uncertainty of the situation, so we focused more on fun family time than school for awhile.
A Sunday game of Ticket to Ride, one of our favorite games.

Part of the stress of March was that Mark needed surgery in Salt Lake at the end of March.  We didn't know if it was going to be able to happen, but miracles paved the way for a smooth trip to Salt Lake (with just me and Mark and Daniel).  The surgery went really well and we were able to go home after a few days.  While Mark was in the operating room, they closed the hospital for elective surgeries after that day.  It was a real blessing he was able to get the surgery done at that time because our new insurance probably would not have covered it.
Daniel and I were able to find a nice wooded area to play, right by the Target in Sandy.  It was tricky keeping Daniel busy for a few days in Salt Lake when we couldn't visit anywhere due to the quarantine.

It was a comfort to accidentally drive by the Jordan River Temple (where Mark received his endowment) when Daniel and I were going on a drive to try to find donuts  (his special request).  We felt  Heaven's help at that time and were so grateful to get back home.

I gave Daniel some stickers one day and he just stuck them all on one hand, so funny.

Joy was pushing Daniel in his toy car and he said “I want to go high,” so she made it do a little wheelie. Then he said “I want car go on see-saw”. So she drove it over to the see-saw and put his car on top of the see-saw seat that was on the ground. Then he said “okay, now launch car!”
He’s been watching too much paw patrol or something
Daniel lounging and enjoying his Easter eggs.  After seeing the candy in his basket, he didn't want to go hunt for eggs, so the other kids brought some to him.

Our Bishop has been writing us inspiring emails every week.  Some weeks he's given challenges, like to make a blanket fort.  One week he challenged us to do sidewalk chalk art.  Joy and Andy made some beautiful art and my neighbor snapped these pictures of Daniel in a rainbow.  He is one of my rainbow babies (a baby born after a loss) and his joy makes everything better.

As part of quarantine, we started having church at home.  We are so blessed to have a righteous Priesthood holder in our house.  It has been very moving to have Mark bless and pass the Sacrament for us every week.

Daniel still sleeps when he wants to, though he's getting a little better about not taking naps at really inconvenient times.  On this day, he just snuggled up to me and fell asleep.  He still likes to be held to sleep and I love that he can be little awhile longer (even though he's pretty big).
Joy, Andy and Daniel have formed a closer bond lately.  They have fun playing outside and making Lego creations.  I love to watch them play together.
 Such cool Lego creations!
For a couple weeks, Joy and Andy were really enjoying going on drives to catch Pokemon (a virtual reality phone game).  One day we saw this mama duck with a bunch of baby ducks, so sweet.

The Best Bites food blog ladies did a big cookie challenge, a new cookie every day, for one week.  We made this big yummy heart cookie.
One of Daniel's favorite things to do is cook pretend food his his play kitchen.  He's such a cutie!
This time has proven that there can be joy found even if difficult situations.  I'm so grateful to be quarantined with my favorite people.
